The location or the cellars close to the Belvedere enables us to experience the contrasts of Gordes.
There is indeed a difference between the narrow and dark streets and the glimmering stones underneath the sun. Thus appear half lights which characterize the villages of Provence. The visitor, when venturing into the cellars of the Palais Saint Firmin, may have this experience of light and shadow in an even stronger way.
The cellars are organised in network, linking a period network to a modern network in order to make the access easier. We talk about a modern network in order to highlight the work carried out by « The Compagnons de France » according to the rules of vaults and drystones of the former time. A route is thus outlined for the visitor in the continuity of his strolling along the narrow streets of Gordes. At all times this network of cellars has been linked to the street with an access for the whole village and the large presses used by all. That is why we think that it is a must-do to visit these cellars in order to understand the underground world of Gordes.
